This year, NFTY CWR will be embarking on a new journey—trying out virtual elections! Virtual Elections will take place on Saturday, March 21st from 10:30 AM-12:30 PM PT on Zoom, and in order for your TYG to receive all 4 votes delegated to each TYG, you will need at least 4 people to represent your TYG for the entirety of the Zoom call on the 21st.
Here is a run-down of how the elections process will work:
Candidate Posters & Speeches: Candidate Posters & Speeches available on the NFTY CWR website, along with Meet the Candidates videos. Please spend time educating yourself and members of your TYG on the candidates who are running for each position. It is the responsibility of the TYG leadership, in partnership with their youth advisors, to encourage their TYG to watch all candidate videos in advance of the elections process, which will take place on Saturday, March 21st from 10:30 AM-12:30 PM via Zoom.
Caucus time: TYGs can set their own caucus time in advance of the elections process, and the first 30 minutes of our call on Saturday (10:30-11:00 AM) will be dedicated caucus time for TYGs if needed. TYG Advisors and presidents will be responsible for generating their own Zoom links for this process, and will join the main Zoom call no later than 11 AM (Zoom link to be generated & circulated on email soon).
THE VIRTUAL ELECTIONS PROCESS
Voting: Voting will take place ONLY on Saturday, March 21st from 10:30 AM-12:30 PM on Zoom. In NFTY CWR, we vote via delegates from each of our TYGs. Each TYG will receive 4 delegates (assuming there are 4 people from each TYG representing on our Zoom call), and at the beginning of the elections process we will conduct roll call (like we would for any Asefah) to get the number of voting delegates in this election. In order for your TYG to receive all 4 votes, your TYG must have 4 members representing on the Zoom call for the entire duration of the call. If you only have 3 delegates from your TYG, you will only receive 3 votes, 2 delegates only 2 votes, etc.
Position Elections: We will be voting by position and in gavel order (President, Programming Vice President, Social Action Vice President, Religious & Cultural Vice President, Membership Vice President, Communications Vice President, Financial & Merchandising Vice President). There will be a virtual ballot for each position that you will receive on the Zoom call, which each TYG will need to fill out according to the number of delegates that they have representing on the call. Once the voting for a position has concluded, the President will announce the winning candidate for each position to everyone on Zoom.
Dropdowns: NFTY CWR has had a history of keeping dropdowns private, and will continue to do so for this election. Should a candidate not be elected to their position and plans to drop down, we will announce their candidacy during the election of the position they are dropping down to and will play a video that they’ve prepared in advance. TYGs will be placed into breakout rooms on Zoom and given 10 minutes for caucus time, and then everyone will come back together and cast their votes.
